EcoSpherica Consultancy (FKA Sustainable Development Strategies)
Principal Analyst April 2007 – Present
Conducts Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) on products and services for product manufactures, material producers, and service providers. Assessments include determining material and energy inputs and emission outputs needed to quantify environmental metrics associated with product or service provided. Associated cost assessments also conducted.
Argonne National Laboratory
Environmental Scientist August 2009 – October 2015
Conducted life cycle analyses of vehicles, vehicle manufacturing, the electricity grid, geothermal power, and batteries. Has 24 years of experience in LCA: 14 years at Ford Motor Company Research, 2 years at University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, and finally 8 years at Argonne National Laboratory.
University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI)
Senior Research Scientist July 2007 – August 2009
Built and led the Sustainable Transportation Systems Program at UMTRI. It addressed sustainability issues for all modes of transportation, including cars, light duty vehicles, buses, heavy truck, rail, aircraft, and marine.
The primary focus of the research was to estimate market penetration of plug-in electric vehicles (PHEVs) into the U.S. auto marketplace considering consumer transportation needs, vehicle purchase and operational costs, and the influence of market penetration level on consumer choice. The impact of PHEV market penetration on fleet life cycle energy and greenhouse gas emissions was also determined. To model PHEV market penetration, an Agent Based Simulation was developed.
This research was supported by a DOE PHEV Demonstration Grant.
Ford Motor Company
Staff Scientist August 1976 – December 2006
Researcher and supervisor in Ford’s Research Division. Over 30 years conducted research in a wide range of areas including advanced materials (composites and elastomers), structures, vehicle safety, life cycle assessment, recycling, and sustainability.
